Capital Markets Services
Since the late 1990s, capital markets have become increasingly involved
in the area of natural hazard risk through investment instruments such
as catastrophe bonds. These investments are of particular interest
because they are not correlated with financial markets, offering a
diversification opportunity for institutional investors. RMS provides
analytical support to insurers, reinsurers, and corporations wishing to
transfer natural hazard risk to the capital markets.
Insurance and Reinsurance Services
Catastrophe risk is a key driver for companies who underwrite risk in the P&C insurance and reinsurance markets. Our services for this
sector include property risk assessment analysis, casualty risk
assessment analysis, reinsurance portfolio analysis,
peer group and industry benchmarking, new business distribution
analysis, and development of rates and loss costs.
Lending Services
Banks and lending institutions are vulnerable to mortgage default risk
in the event of a natural catastrophe. Earthquakes are of particular
concern because standard insurance policies do not cover this peril.
This emerged as a major issue following the Northridge Earthquake which
stuck southern California in 1994. Following the earthquake, many
borrowers who incurred significant damage defaulted on loans rather than
pay for repairs. Our services for lenders help them quantify and manage
this risk through portfolio level analysis, risk transfer, and
underwriting evaluations. |
