Raj Manghani Joins RMS as Vice President of Underwriting Solutions
Product Management
Newark, CA – April 8, 2008 – Raj Manghani has
been appointed vice president of underwriting solutions product
management at Risk Management Solutions (RMS). In this role, Mr.
Manghani will lead RMS’ efforts to help insurers use catastrophe
modeling to make superior underwriting decisions. His responsibilities
will include driving the development and expansion of RMS’ portfolio of
insurance underwriting decision-support products, which includes the
RiskBrowser® enterprise catastrophe risk underwriting
platform, the RiskSearch® Internet catastrophe risk data and
modeling site, the RiskTools™ development toolkit, and a broad suite of
natural hazard mapping datasets derived from RMS catastrophe models.
Mr. Manghani recently served as executive director, risk analytics
product management at MSCI Barra, a subsidiary of Morgan Stanley and one
of the leading providers of investment risk analytics to the asset
management industry. During his seven years at the firm, he was
instrumental in the development and commercialization of Barra's
enterprise market risk models and analytics delivered via proprietary
Barra software as well as third party platforms. Most recently, Mr.
Manghani led a team of the firm's senior researchers and developers to
incorporate next generation market risk analytics and models in a hosted
platform. "Only a minority of insurers are taking
full advantage of modeling to inform underwriting decisions. There are
considerable opportunities for insurers to enhance their underwriting
processes by improving data quality, expanding the data and analytics
used for understanding catastrophe risk, and embedding models more
deeply into the underwriting process, in particular within automated
decisioning environments,” said Paul VanderMarck, chief products officer
at RMS. “Raj has extensive experience in successfully designing both
complex risk analytics for informing financial risk management decisions
as well as the application platforms to efficiently deliver these into
decisioning processes, and this experience is well suited to helping our
clients advance their catastrophe risk underwriting capabilities.”
Prior to Barra, Mr. Manghani held product management
roles at Wall Street Access and TransAmerica Life. He has an MBA and an
MS degree in Operations Research from the University of California at
Berkeley, and dual BS degrees in Computer Science and Applied
Mathematics from Southern Methodist University. He is a CFA®
(Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder and holds the FRM®
(Financial Risk Manager) designation.
